China Mass Production WS-15 Afterburning Turbofan Engine For J-20 Mighty Dragon |
Beijing - China begins mass production of the WS-15 afterburning turbofan engine for the J-20 Mighty Dragon stealth fighter jet. The WS-15 is a machine with a new design that will be used until 2050, according to an official statement from the Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC) as reported by Military Watch.
The WS-15 engine is designed to have a long service life and has higher performance than the WS-10C engine. By using an engine equipped with this thrust vector, the J-20 can maneuver even more agile. In addition, the J-20 can perform supersonic flight without having to engage its afterburner mode.
Regarding the J-20, this is the fifth generation fighter made in Chengdu which is the most produced after the F-35 from Lockheed Martin, USA.
The F-22 from the US is no longer being produced, while the Su-57 from Russia seems to be experiencing problems in terms of production due to a country that is at war with Ukraine and sanctions imposed by the US and allied countries.
It is not known how many J-20s the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) already has. However, the number is estimated to have reached tens based on the registration number seen on the plane.
