Russia Is Ready to Deploy UGV Markers Equipped with Kornet ATGMs to Fight US and European Tanks in Ukraine |
Moscow - The Russian army is ready to deploy a Marker combat robot system (UGV) equipped with a weapon station armed with the Kornet ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile). The UGV marker will be used by the Russian Armed Forces to target modern MBTs (Main Battle Tanks) donated to Ukraine by European countries and the US, as published by RIA Novosti on March 31, 2023.
In its combat mission, the Marker UGV will automatically recognize and attack Ukrainian war equipment, including the Leopard 2, Challenger 2 and Abrams tanks. This is thanks to a computerized image catalog in which the Marker uses AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools.
The UGV marker will function autonomously to conduct combat operations and locate targets up to 9.3 miles away. The Marker combat robot was designed by the National Center for Development of Basic Elements & Technology of Robotics in collaboration with the Android Technics company.
Concerning the 9M133 Kornet (NATO: AT-14 Spriggan), the missile began to be designed by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau in 1988. It was passed on to Russia from 1992 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991. Its production was carried out by the Degtyarev arms manufacturer from 1994 and was first introduced to into service with the Russian army in 1998.
Regarding the specifications, the Kornet is 120 cm long, 15.2 cm in diameter, and the missile weighs 27 kg and the tube is 2 kg. The Kornet is capable of engaging any armored vehicle target including MBTs, using a reliable and easy-to-use laser beam guidance system. The Kornet's operational range ranges from 100 m to 5,500 m for the standard version, and 100 m to 8,000 m for the Kornet-EM version.
