The Difference Between JASSM-ER and LRSAM Long Range Missiles, US Missiles With Terrible Capabilities |
International Military - JASSM-ER (Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range) and LRASM (Long Range Anti-Ship Missile) are both long-range air-launched missiles with similar capabilities. Both of these long-range missiles are made by Lockheed Martin, a well-known weapons manufacturer from the United States (US).
Quoted from Eurasiantimes, Lockheed Martin produces more than 500 LRASM and JASSM annually for the US military. To do this, Lockheed Martin's new factory in Troy, Alabama, has refined and increased automation compared to the original production line.
Both missiles are designed to be highly survivable and capable of penetrating advanced air defense systems. Both are also stealthy, with low radar cross-sections, and equipped with advanced guidance systems for a high probability of success.
Despite their similar capabilities, there are some very different details between the JASS-ER and LRASM missiles. There are at least four differences between the two missiles made by Lockheed Martin.
1. Missile Range
JASSM-ER has a range of over 1,000 nautical miles or approximately 1852 km, while LRASM has a range of approximately 500 nautical miles or 926 km.
2. Targeting
The JASSM-ER missile is designed to engage a variety of fixed and mobile ground targets, while the LRASM is specifically designed to attack ships.
3. Guide
The JASSM-ER uses an infrared seeker and GPS/INS guidance, while the LRASM uses a combination of radar and imaging infrared seeker for guidance.
4. Platforms
The JASSM-ER missile can be launched from a variety of aircraft, including B-1B, B-2, B-52, and F-15E fighter jets, while the LRASM is currently only integrated with F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter jets and F-35 Lightning II.
