Again, Germany Prepares New Military Aid Package For Ukraine Military Worth $3 Billion |
Berlin - Germany is preparing a new military aid package for the Ukrainian military worth 2.7 billion euros ($3 billion). The aid is the largest since Russia invaded Ukraine last year, the German Defense Ministry said Saturday.
Germany hopes that with this new military aid the war between Russia and Ukraine can end soon. "We all hoped for a speedy end to this terrible war by Russia against the Ukrainian people, but unfortunately this is not in sight," the German Defense Minister said in a statement.
The new military aid package will include an additional 30 Leopard-1 tanks, Marder armored vehicles, air defense systems and reconnaissance drones.
The Western Allies have been sending increasingly powerful weapons to Kyiv since Russia sent troops to Ukraine in February 2022, though so far not the advanced fighter jets requested by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Germany last year provided two billion euros worth of military support. They have also promised to supply more advanced Leopard-2 tanks and have trained the Ukrainian army to use them.
