Chinese Navy's 3rd Aircraft Carrier Fujian Performs Propulsion Test |
Beijing - The Chinese Navy's newest aircraft carrier (PLA Navy) Fujian conducted a propulsion test before making its maiden voyage. To complete the propulsion test, Fujian will leave the dock and conduct navigation tests at sea, as reported by the Global Times (23/4).
Regarding the specifications, the aircraft carrier, which is classified as Type 003, has a displacement of 71,875 tons under normal conditions and more than 80,000 tons when fully loaded. The vessel, which is 316 m long and 76 m wide, is powered by a steam turbine with 8 boilers, 4 shafts and over 220,000 horsepower (164 MW).
Fujian is China's first aircraft carrier to feature the CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery or Catapult Assisted Take-Off Barrier Arrested Recovery) system and electromagnetic catapult. On its deck, Fujian will be staffed with J-15 Flying Shark multirole fighters and possibly J-35 stealth jets and the new KJ-600 AWA&C aircraft.
