NATO Relies on F-35 Fighter Jets to Counter Russian Electronic Warfare Systems |
International Military - Although not directly involved or entering the airspace of Ukraine which is fighting against Russian forces, NATO appears to be relying on the F-35 to counteract the Electronic Warfare (EW) systems used by Moscow. Artificial intelligence-driven electronic warfare capabilities could change the way US forces respond to unforeseen electromagnetic threats.
Air Force Times reported, US Air Force (USAF) F-35A pilots patrolling along the eastern side of NATO had detected an air defense system that allegedly came from Russia or Belarus.

Earlier in late March, the United States and its NATO allies had strengthened their force posture along the Russia-facing eastern fringe of the alliance. This includes the deployment of F-35s and personnel from the 388th Fighter Wing and 419th Fighter Wing, part of the Air Force Reserve based at Hill Air Force Base in Utah.
The F-35 is known to be able to collect data that is quite useful for combat analysis. The data captured by the F-35 can be used to categorize and geolocate various types of transmitters, including radars related to air defense systems.
