Poland Receives 18 Units M142 HIMARS First From US |
Warsaw - Poland has officially taken delivery of its first High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) from the United States. The first batch of several Lockheed Martin HIMARS launchers arrived in Poland and were showcased in a welcoming ceremony attended by high-ranking Polish dignitaries.
The US Department of State in February 2023 approved the potential sale of 18 HIMARS including their munitions to Poland.
The M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) is based on the M1140A1 6X6 truck chassis, has a single pod with six launch tubes. Can fire various types of rockets including M26/M26A2Er Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions (DPICM), XM404 /XM403 ER GMLRS RS Unitary rocket, M28A1/M28A2 Low Cost Reduced Range Practice Rocket (LCRRPR).
The M142 HIMARS is also capable of firing ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) including the MGM-140A Block 1 type with a range of 80-130 km. Then MGM-140B has a range of 165 km, M48 Quick Reaction Unitary with a range of 70-300 km, and M57 ATACMS 2000 Unitary (T2K) with a range of 70-300 km.
Another ultimate missile, namely the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), is an all-weather surface-to-surface missile that can attack a variety of targets in the range of 70 to 499 km. Apart from the M142 HIMARS, Poland will also procure 300 K239 Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launchers (MLRS) from South Korea.
