International Military - A Mi-8 helicopter and a Russian Su-34 bomber jet crashed simultaneously in Bryansk, an area adjacent to the Ukrainian border, on Saturday (13/5/2023). Initially, only the helicopter crash was reported by the local media. “A helicopter crashed in the city of Klintsy. According to initial reports, the cause was engine fire," a Russian emergency services source told the TASS news agency.
Then the Telegram channel "112" claimed that two helicopters allegedly crashed in the Bryansk region at once, the first in the city of Klintsy and the second in the city of Starodub. But Russian emergency services confirmed that the second plane that crashed was not a helicopter but a Su-34 bomber jet.
Two people on board the helicopter died in the crash. While the possible victims of the crash of the Su-34 jet are unknown. “Until now, the wreckage of the helicopter has been recovered. A fire started after the accident, it was quickly extinguished. The people [in the helicopter] died," a Russian emergency services source told TASS.
Other local media reports said law enforcement officers were looking for saboteurs who may have been involved in the attacks on Mi-8 helicopters and Su-34 jets.
According to the head of the local municipal administration Sergey Yevteev, there was no damage on the ground after the helicopter crashed. A 51-year-old woman died as a result of the crash, where she was walking on the street when the helicopter debris fell on her head.
