Specifications Ivan Khurs, Russian Intelligence Ship Thwarted Ukrainian Drone Attack |
International Military - Russia's Ivan Khurs is the second Project 18280 ship out of a total of four Yury Ivanov-class ships to be built. The ship was designed by JSC "Central Design Bureau Iceberg". The Russian Ministry of Defense recently revealed that the intelligence vessel Ivan Kurs managed to stop a drone attack from Ukraine.
As evidence, Russia immediately released a video showing an unmanned vehicle from Ukraine about to attack the Ivan Kurs Ship in the Black Sea on May 24, 2023. The drone was then attacked by the intelligence ship until it was destroyed. In the announcement, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Ivan Khurs was patrolling the area to ensure the safety of the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream pipelines.
A day after the statement, the Twitter account Ukraine Weapons Tracker shared a video showing that the drone made it to Russia's Ivan Khurs, damaging it. These two shared videos provide very different information. Until now, it is still uncertain which information contains the truth.
But according to Naval News, the Ivan Khurs AGI appears to have made it safely back to its port of Sevastopol on May 26 2023 without sustaining any damage.
Specifications for the Russian Ivan Khurs This intelligence ship began to be designed in November 2013, and was only introduced to the public in May 2017. Meanwhile, the series of trials for the Ivan Khurs was only completed in early June 2018.
Ships built using this steel have a maximum weight of 4000 tons. As many as 130 sailors can be accommodated by the ship which can explore as far as 8,000 miles. On the deck of this ship there are two 14.5 mm MTPU machine gun mounts. The rifle is very effective at penetrating lightly armored surfaces, and is capable of reaching a distance of up to 2 km.
Meanwhile, to repel fast-moving aerial objects such as planes, this ship has been equipped with six 9K38 Igla surface-to-air missile (SAM) launchers (NATO: SA-18 Grouse). A total of 32 9M39 missiles were carried as ammunition.
For its own size, Ivan Khurs has a length of 95 meters and a width of 16 meters, the intelligence ship is also capable of reaching speeds of 20 knots. The name Ivan Khurs is named after Vice Admiral Ivan Khurs who contributed to the organization and development of the Soviet Navy's permanent naval intelligence service.
