The Kizilelma And Akinci Drone Flying Together For The First Time In Turkish Skies |
Ankara - For the first time the Bayraktar Kizilelma unmanned combat aircraft and the Bayraktar Akinci Armed UAV (UCAV) made their first joint flight. The flights were carried out at the Akinci Flight Training and Test Center in the Çorlu District near Ankara, Turkey.
A video uploaded by Baykar senior official Selçuk Bayraktar shows Kizilelma taking off and meeting Akinci's drone in the air. The two drones flew independently in close formation. The tandem flight is expected to help the Turkish Military explore unmanned teams for future combat.
The Kizilelma was first launched in 2021. This unmanned fighter jet is powered by an AI-322F turbofan engine from Ukraine. The company says the Kizilelma can fly for up to five hours at a maximum altitude of 40,000 feet (12.2 km) and a speed of Mach 0.9.
The jet is equipped with an AESA radar from Aselsan and can launch Bozdogan and Gokdogan air-to-air missiles. While Akinci is designed to carry out air-to-ground and air-to-air attack missions.
Akinci features fully automatic landing and take-off. The drone can carry payloads such as guided MK-82 bombs, MAM-C mini smart munitions, and L-UMTAS missiles.
Turkey is accelerating the progress of its aerospace technology by producing the latest manned and unmanned aircraft products. The program that is also being accelerated is the TF-X generation fighter jet which has started road tests on the tarmac.
