The US Air Force Deploys 3 F-22 Fighter Jets To Intercept Foreign Objects In The Sky Of Hawaii |
International Military - The United States Air Force (USAF) deployed three F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jets to intercept a spherical balloon-like object over the Hawaiian Islands last week. The Pentagon said it did not know who owned the balloon and did not suspect it posed a threat.
The US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) confirmed the intercept and provided The War Zone with additional details about the balloon incident. "We have seen indications that something was going on in Hawaii last Friday and has reached the Pacific Air Force (PACAF), the highest command of the Air Force in the region, and INDOPACOM at the time," the statement read.
The Pacific Air Force launched three F-22s to assess the situation and visually identify the spherical object. The Department of Defense and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) detected and observed on April 28 an unmanned balloon off the coast of Hawaii. The balloon flew at an altitude of about 36,000 feet. It is not known who owns the spherical object or balloon.
