Ukrainian Military Receives APR-40 122 MLRS Assistance From Croatia |
Kiev - The Armed Forces of Ukraine have reportedly received APR-40 122 mm MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) made in Romania donated by Croatia.
Since the Russo-Ukrainian War began, Croatia has provided Ukraine with a comprehensive package of military and humanitarian assistance. The assistance included nine Mi-8 helicopters and 15 M-46 130 mm field guns and 40 D-30 howitzers. In April 2023, Croatia also delivered the 128 mm RAK-SA-12 Multi-Rocket Launching System.
Regarding the APR-40, it is an upgraded version of the BM-21 Grad developed by Romania. This weapon entered service in the late 1980s. The APR-40 is designed to provide indirect fire support to ground troops and engage a variety of targets, including enemy artillery, infantry formations, fortifications, and armored vehicles. The system is capable of launching 40 unguided rockets in a single salvo, providing significant firepower in a short period of time.
APR-40 can fire 122 mm caliber rockets with a range of about 20-40 km, depending on the type of rocket used. The system can be loaded with a variety of warhead types, including High-Explosive Fragmentation (HE-FRAG), incendiary, smoke and illumination rounds, making it a versatile weapon for a variety of battlefield scenarios.
The APR-40 is also equipped with an advanced fire control system that allows for fast and accurate targeting.
To operate it, the APR-40 is manned by four to six personnel, including a driver, commander, and two to four operators. The rocket launcher system can be mounted on a variety of 6X6 truck chassis, including the Romanian DAC (Diesel Auto Camion) truck.
