US Navy Will Sell 6 Littoral Combat Ships |
International Military - The US Navy (US Navy) plans to sell their six Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) starting next year. These ships have only been used by the US Navy for a few years.
In Fiscal Year 2024 the US Navy will sell two Independence-class LCS ships, namely USS Jackson (LCS 6) and USS Montgomery (LCS 8). Each of these ships has been in use since 2015 and 2016. Then in Fiscal Year 2025, the US Navy will sell four Freedom-class LCS ships, namely USS Wichita (LCS 13), USS Billings (LCS 15), USS Indianapolis (LCS 17) , and USS St Louis (LCS 19).
The four Freedom class LCS ships are relatively new, having only been used in the last four and three years. LCS 13, 15 and 17 have been used since 2019. Meanwhile, LCS 19 has been used since 2020.
The US Navy currently operates 12 Independence-class LCS vessels. While the other four are still being made or are undergoing integration. There are then 10 Freedom-class LCS vessels in active service, with another five currently being fitted or readied to enter service.
The US Navy first publicly raised the possibility of selling some of its LCS last year. The service continues to try to finalize its own plans for what to do with these long-troubled ships.
