Russian Military Uses Arash-1 HE-FRAG 122 mm Rockets Made in Iran in Ukraine |
Moscow - The Russian Ministry of Defense on October 1 has confirmed the use of Iranian-made 122 mm HE-FRAG rockets of the Arash-1 family in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This confirmation came after a video released by the Russian Ministry of Defense showed the rockets being fired from multiple BM-21 Grad MLRS rocket launchers.
The Iranian 122 mm Arash-1 is an electrically launched fragmentation surface-to-surface rocket, with fins and spin stabilization, similar to the Russian BM-21 Grad rocket. In return for its military supplies to Russia, Iran is believed to have been promised delivery of a 4.5 generation multi-role fighter jet, namely the Su-35, although the aircraft has not yet been delivered.
However, Iran has already obtained advanced Yak-130 trainer jets from Russia. Despite facing additional sanctions from the United States and its Western allies, Tehran continues to supply Moscow with military needs.
The latest report from the Institute of Study of War (ISW) indicates that Iran and Russia will soon sign additional sales agreements for drones and surface-to-surface missiles.
